On 1 October, GSA New York joined Cornell University and the New York State Turfgrass Association in a "Winning Fields" sports field seminar at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY.

The underlying theme of the day was environmental stewardship as New York captain Kevin Trotta teamed up with Dr. Frank Rossi of Cornell. Their presentations - Science in the Outfield, Managing Nutrients and Environmental Turf Craft - promoted sustainability in the management of sport fields. The mission of the Global Sports Alliance was also explained.

Doubleday Field opened for play in 1920 and has seen baseball giants like Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth play the game on this venerable diamond. Legend has it that baseball was invented in 1839 by Abner Doubleday on a cow pasture which existed on this site.

In addition to historic Doubleday Field, Cooperstown is home to the nearby National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
