G-ForSE Poster Competition 2008

17 September 2008--In the run up to the G-ForSE Global Forum, to be held in Alicante, Spain from 4-6 October 2008, event organizers--the United Nations Environment Programme and NPO Global Sports Alliance (GSA)--are holding a Poster Competition to promote the event and the concept of environmental action in sport.

Ten posters have been selected for the Poster Competition and are on display on the UNEP website. Anyone can access the gallery and vote for the poster that best encapsulates the spirit of 'sports and the environment'. Each computer is allowed to vote once.

The winner will be announced on the UNEP website on the 22nd of September 2008 and put on display at the G-ForSE Forum. The Global Forum is the 5th event of its kind, having previously been held in Tokyo (twice), Lahore and most recently at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne in 2006.

G-ForSE 2008 sponsored by Volvo, and Alicante, Spain was selected as the event location to coincide with the launch of the Volvo Ocean Race. The Forum, whose theme is--Climate Change: Changing our Carbon Footprint--will address the connection between sport and climate change and review actions by sport organizations to reduce their carbon footprints.

The 200 participants of the Forum will come from sports organizations and federations, sports personalities, the International Olympic Committee, manufacturers of sporting goods, United Nations agencies, NGOs and government representatives.
